Description

Casa Amatller, one of Puig i Cadafalch’s most ostentatious Modernista creations, features a unique blend of Gothic window frames, Romanesque flourishes, and a stepped gable taken from Dutch urban architecture. But the building’s main facade takes it to the next level with its abundance of busts, reliefs and other intricate designs of dragons, knights and other characters. Inside, the tiled pillared foyer and staircase lit by stained glass evoke the feeling of being in a romantic castle. The building was renovated in 1900 for the chocolate baron and philanthropist Antoni Amatller (1851–1910).
