Fairytale architecture

Of all the beautiful Modernista architecture on the Passeig de Gràcia in the Eixample area, Gaudí's Casa Batlló is the centrepiece. The tiled facade is such a swirling vortex of curves and waves that it appears more like a living creature than a building.

One explanation for the remarkable style is that it represents Sant Jordi (St George) and the dragon, with the roof depicting the dragon's back. It's also possible to see inside the house where Gaudí's imagination and attention to detail are much in evidence.
