Description
This Montserrat day trip from Barcelona takes you to Catalonia's best-known mountain range by air-conditioned bus, with a cogwheel train ride on the options that include it. A guide leads a walking tour through the 11th-century Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey, a monastery still in use, and the ornate basilica is included. The driving is in a large bus, but the walk is in small or medium groups of at most 20 people per guide.
Then comes free time, one to two hours depending on your option. Some options include a slot to see the Black Madonna. Not part of the tour, and booked separately: the boys' choir, the Montserrat Museum with paintings by Picasso, El Greco and Dalí, and the funicular ride. All but the funicular need advance booking.
The half-day option ends back in Barcelona after Montserrat. The full-day option continues to a boutique winery set in a 10th-century castle, run by one family for 36 generations.
