Surrounded by leafy acacias and featuring a trickling fountain and baroque church, the small square still bears the scars of the 1938 bombing carried out by the Italian air force in support of Franco, wherein 42 people tragically lost their lives, a majority of them being young children. To this day, the square is home to a functioning school.
