Description

Located on Carrer de Montcada, the Museu Picasso celebrates the artistic genius of Pablo Picasso, who moved to Barcelona at the age of 14 and formed strong ties with the city. Opened in 1963 and containing around 4000 original works, the museum pays tribute to the life and work of the artist, including his earliest works and key pieces from his Blue and Cubist periods. The Col.lecció Sabartés, the museum's founding collection, includes many of the artist's iconic works, such as Aunt Pepa Portrait and The Rooftops of Barcelona, as well as the series of Meninas de Velázquez. The five Medieval palaces that compose the museum showcase Picasso's unique connection with Barcelona, as well as his well-known political views in opposition to the Franco regime. While his renowned works like Guernica, Three Musicians, and Family of Saltimbanques are found elsewhere, Museu Picasso is home to the world’s largest collection of works from Picasso's earliest years, making it a must-see site for potential visitors.
