Description
Surrounded by the modern grid-pattern of Barcelona's late-19th-century Eixample, the Church of Santa Maria del Pi stands as a remarkable reminder of the city's medieval past. Dating back to the 14th century, the church was reassembled in its current location between 1871-1888, stone by stone from the old city centre. Visitors to the church can marvel at its 15th-16th century cloister and tranquil garden with a small trickling fountain. Behind it stands the Romanesque-Gothic bell tower, a reminder of the Església de Sant Miquel, an old Barcelona church that did not survive.
